Yay for field trips! Growing up I remember two field trip that happened every year in elementary school, Tauphus Park and the ZOO. Oddly I still have never been to Craters of the Moon. I know the extra special kids got to go sometimes, but I was never included in the extra special group. SIGH!
Friday I went with Aly's class to the Maidu Interpretive Center. It is all about the Maidu Indians who lived all over California & Nevada before the gold rush hit & Indian Reservations were invented. We were able to see lots of great artifacts and re-creations of Maidu life. Aly was the photographer half the time and did a great job snapping pictures she liked.
The Maidu women would grind acorns into fine powder for cooking using these holes.

If you look closely you can see a turtle on the end of the log.
A highlight of the trip was the face painting. The Indians used the mud for sun screen.

Way to go you super mom! I hope you were not "Pedro Hot" during the trip.
I wonder what acorn flour tastes like...?
Aunt Holly you have to grind it then soak it in hot water to get the acid out then drain it then make it into soup or mush
